We at BAWA organise our own events and participate in various projects and events organised by our partners and other community groups. Here is a selection of images of some projects and events.
Digital T-Shirt Designing Workshop
BAWA members took part in an enjoyable Digital T-Shirt Designing workshop organised by Belfast South Community Resources (BSCR) at Sandy Row. Jonny delivered the 3 sessions exclusively for our members and their children. We got to design anything from smileys to dance poses to football to birds etc...
Donating Scrubs to Belfast Health & Social Care Trust
BAWA members collectively produced 30 pairs of high-quality handmade scrubs for our key workers as a way of showing our appreciation to the NHS and other frontline workers for their sacrifices during the pandemic. The project was done in collaboration with the Ethnic Minority Sports Organisation Northern Ireland (EMSONI). We also hosted a social distancing Appreciation Day to show our appreciation to all the members who contributed to the success of this project.
Gloves Donation to Our Lady's Care Home
BAWA members collectively donated 5000 gloves to Our Lady's Care Home in the Beechmount area in appreciation of our key workers who tirelessly worked to keep us safe during the pandemic. MLA Gerry Carroll extended his support to make this project a success.
Taekwondo Taster Session
BAWA in partnership with UKTC NI organised a 3-week Taekwondo Taster Session for parents and children to get a feel for the martial art form. The sessions were conducted by Mr. Gerard Holland from UKTC NI at the St Malachy Youth Centre for allowing us to use this great venue. We all had a fantastic experience and lots of fun with the children.
Mums and Kids Rounders Game
BAWA hosted a Rounders Game Session for mums and kids. It was our first outdoor activity after being in lockdown for a few months. This wasn't about competing but it was for BAWA ladies and their kids to get together and have some fun.
BAWA initiated a project called Foodbank Ghostbusters. We as a group were able to donate a total of 162.15 kgs of food to South Belfast Foodbank throughout 2019 providing 386 meals for those who use the foodbank.
Food Donation to the Belfast Homeless Services
BAWA undertakes self funded charity work to address societal issues. Since the lockdown BAWA members have been donation sandwiches and fruits to the Belfast Homeless Services. To date, they have donated over 2000 sandwiches and fruits and continue to do so on month to month basis.
