BAWA was established on 21 January 2019 by its founder, Ana Chandran LLB Hons, as a women's group. It later transitioned into a charity in June 2022. BAWA's primary aim is to empower women to create a positive impact in society. The organisation implements creative programmes to foster better relationships between the Asian and indigenous communities including addressing societal issues.

BAWA provides platforms for women to showcase their talents in various forms such as art, dance, music, and culinary sports.BAWA is also dedicated to advancing and safeguarding the heritage and culture of South Asians living in Northern Ireland.
